When life was so overwhelmed
she lost the sense of time
Then
she heard his voice whispering “I love you”
That restored her sense of reality
Those ‘I love you’s filled her
with mechanical rhythm
day and night
That led her to lose her sense of self
She wondered
why wasn’t ‘I love you’ enough
In her struggling psyche
she failed to notice
what he really was
Very, very clever 😊

Super interesting. The ending through me off a bit. Not sure exactly what might be going on 100%. The reality seems a bit cuckoo. Great work!

Hi Ben, what I tried to describe was he told her ‘I love you’ mechanically like the cuckoo clock, strike on time and in a regular rhythm, but other then that, it was a clock incapable of any emotional investment. The essence of the piece is about she fell in love with a person with narcissistic traits.

I see. That makes sense. Falling for a person with narcissistic traits: that’s a very hard relationship. I can relate to this on some level. I like the poem. It’s interesting to re-read after knowing your thoughts.
