Griffiti Rocks

Memoirs griffitied on rocks
along the breakwall
recording life events
of locals and visitors

A celebration of a new born
Loneliness of a young man
A girl sad about unrequired love
A declaration of love
A marriage proposal
A strong bond of siblings
An unwavering friendship

Griefing parents burried a child
Loss of a best friend
A widow’s sorrow in a poem
A young man mourns his fellow soidiers
An old man laments his life

They gave these rocks flavours
Besides the salty seawater
In return
The rocks gave them blank pages
For their stories

  1. Your poem beautifully captures the essence of human life, with all its joys and sorrows, triumphs and tragedies. The metaphor of the rocks as silent witnesses to these myriad experiences is profoundly moving. Each line tells a story, and each word resonates with emotion. It’s a poignant reminder that our stories and experiences flavor our existence, just as the memoirs graffitied on the rocks add flavor to the salty seawater. Thank you for sharing this touching piece.

    1. I often feel the word unrequired is more specific than unrequited because if she is loving him in secret while he is in another committed relationship, then it’s more unrequited than unrequited..I perceive who did the graffiti on the rock didn’t even express her love for him.
