landed with disinterest on his bald head
as he watched her slide into
the oversized chair with sinuous grace

the retold story of
beauty and the beast
in reverse
the modern Vito and Olga
sipping coffee latte
in the middle of a land
once flowing with milk and honey
cowboys, cattle and cotton farms
