I asked AI to write a love poem in eastern style. It came up like the below. I must say, before the AI, I read poems like that. It read well constructed, but I couldn’t feel the poet. That’s the best way I could put it. What do you think?
In the realm where blossoms dance with grace,
A love tale whispers through timeless space.
Amidst serene gardens, a union takes flight,
Two souls entwined, a symphony of delight.
Under moonlit skies, love’s lanterns aglow,
In Eastern paradise, our hearts overflow.
Your eyes, the reflection of rivers so deep,
In their depths, countless secrets to keep.
Your smile, a radiant sun shining above,
Guiding me through life like a gentle dove.
Your touch, so delicate, like silk on my skin,
Igniting passions, a journey begins.
In this realm of ours, where desires take flight,
Two hearts harmonize, in rhythm so right.
A dance of love, like the whispers of wind,
Embracing the beauty that Eastern love brings.
With every breath we share, an eternal bond,
A love so profound, a connection beyond.
Through woven tapestries of passion and grace,
Our love story etched in this sacred space.
Like cherry blossoms, our love blooms anew,
Through all seasons, our devotion stays true.
In this Eastern realm, love’s essence unfurled,
United forever, in this ancient world.
So let love’s melody guide our souls above,
In Eastern style, we embrace this love.
A symphony of hearts, forever entwined,
In this timeless realm, our love defined.

Cassa, you know I have always admired your work, but not this one. AI is something great applied to medical research but not to anything artistic. I know that it can compose just about anything but art, whether it is painting, poetry, prose or scripts for movies or theatre plays, must be done by a human. The connection brain, hand, paper (or keyboard) must exist together with the knowledge and preparation of the artist so that the work will be contemporary and be filled with spirit. AI cannot do that no matter how intelligent it is. I think that for artists (writers et al) AI can be a tool perhaps to generate ideas but once the AI has produced something, the hand of the artist has to start working on making it human. Thank you! And all the best. (And please forgive me if you disagree, this is not a criticism of you at all, just thoughts).

Francis, you made the exact point I wanted to make. AI peom (at least this one) feels empty. The word I had in mind when I read it was ‘narcissist’ (full of words but empty inside).
Thank you for commenting.
I appreciate you!

It’s my pleasure Cassa, and you’re so right, narcissistic is bang on the right term. Cheers.

The AI poem seemed to rely on clichés to hold the reader’s attention. However, it has rhyme and meaning. That is what AI generated poetry seems to be trying to simulate. We simulate our faces with photographs and these words attempt to simulate our thoughts. Seeing the real face and thinking the thoughts goes beyond simulation. The problem with AI poetry is that it encourages one to think that human beings, made in the image of God, can be reduced to an algorithm sort of like our faces being reduced to photographs.

I love the analogy you used (the face to photograph), it’s accurate. I agree with you. It’s like Satan thinks he is as clever and intelligent and wise as God. But we know that he is an impostor.
Thank you for your comment and I appreciate you.

I agree, this is almost (understandably) formulaic. Yes it reads well, although some of the rhymes are quite bland, and there is no real sense of feeling here; it is clear that no-one was being pictured as the words emerged.

Chris, you hit a great point about no-one was being pictured as the words emerged. It’s like firing all great words but missing the target.
Thank you for your comment and I appreciate you.

It is having no salt and pepper and sweetness. Hate the AI stuff going around.

K, you are so right a out the lack of flavour. It’s like eating an international dish combining with pizza, chicken tikka, fried rice, falafel and more…but the taste is terrible.
Thank you for your comment and I appreciate you. 🌻💚

I agree. There is mechanical feeling when AI tries to be creative. Especially when it comes to writing.
After all it is generally limited to what has already been done or said.
The quirkiness and character of a writer is missing, so the “voice,” feels bland and unintuitive.

Very true my friend! Indeed it’s missing the voice of a flesh and blood poet.

An interesting experiment, Cassa, and while the words are there, I definitely feel the lack of something personal and deep inside . . . thank you for sharing this and inviting conversation. 🙂
