Scoville Scale

lazy Sunday noon
bathe our limbs in the sun
on a checkered picnic rug
our giggles grow into
uncontrollable hysterics
two timid souls
dismantled by
the chemistry of laughter
behind the chuckles
there is throaty longing
the childlike energy
flows between breaths
try to
catch the uncatchable
contain the uncontainable
avoid the inevitable
how often
we let loose
let our guard down
let another please us
in the most
innocent form
of encounter

sometimes
the world is so loud
I long for silence
to be my companion
early mornings
late nights
noises fall off
like withered petals
the world
is beautiful again
I don’t mind
counting breaths
hearing own thoughts
feeling exhaustion
sensing pain
stripped of
layers of interference
soaked in quietness
my soul is
revitalised

eyes are
windows
to the soul
mirror shows
left right reversed
image of self
we may be lying
when
looking to the right
no wonder
we perceive lies
to be the truths
when I was growing up
food was scarce
materials were scarce
I built up tolerance for poverty
I was raised by a village
there was always someone
showed me kindness
I became intolerant to meanness
nowadays
there are plenty food groups
over abundance of disposals
I am intolerant to dairy
for years
we have strived for independence
are we going too far
to be overly self sufficient
we are
keeping more secrets
building layers of facade
hiding immorality behind
morale codes
desensitising each other
under the banner of
political correctness
I miss the days
with very little
being poor is not
a state of lack
blessed with many
but
missing the point
is treachery
Violent
Outburst
Leaves
Cancerous
Aftermath
No man can
Overcome
We are like raisins
Weather worn appearances
Sweethearts through and through
