A Day Trip

The world became a strange place
almost over night for all of us

to some
job loss,
couldn’t pay bills,
couldn’t pay rent,
hiring freeze,
maxed out credit cards,
maxed out personal favours,
in that order

sleepless nights
worries
anxious thoughts
self hatred
in a circle
chasing each other’s tail

We drove to an apple orchard
for a day trip
picking apples from a tree
before gravity got the better of them
we felt somewhat heroic
saving the apples
from being bruised and battered

We snapped a few photos
wearing big smiles
with buckets of harvest
in the sunlit red and green orchard
a message you sent home
for their peace of mind

Somehow I knew
a day trip was no more
than an act of bravery
for the sole purpose of
changing scenery

this evening onward
for you
sleepless nights
worries
anxious thoughts
self hatred
in a circle
chasing each other’s tail

  1. Great, Cassa! This is a great example of how getting to new places and new experiences create inspiration :D.

    I really enjoyed reading this.

    “maxed out credit cards,
    maxed out personal favours”

This is pretty perverse, isn’t it. Getting into debt shouldn’t come before being helped out by friends/relatives. Yet that’s what some people often suggested to me last year, living in the car and with all my troubles, with no end to it in sight! πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Getting into debt makes no sense if there’s no plan for how to pay it off

    1. Credit card is evil 😢
The sense of not bothering friend and family, we can ride the storm on our own, keeping it to self, seems to be the action we often take. We live better with community and others.
