Why aren’t the roses growing

his neighbour always had a smile
hanging above her taut full lips
wearing yoga pants and platform shoes

she also had a cat always hungry
the feral creature preyed on his birds
with deprived and snarling face

he checked the cage everyday
OCD on its bars and lock
leaving no chance for the predator

to his dismay
he returned home to find an empty cage
with no sign of his two budgies
only
the feline was grooming uncaringly

he is looking out the window to the garden
wondering why his roses are’t growing
blood and bones are meant to be
excellent feed for roses

he was careful with the burial
to ensure gradual decomposition
and slow release

he cannot understand
why aren’t the roses growing
perhaps cats do indeed
have nine lives

Unusual case

a murder mystery
occured at three o’clock
nobody’s around at noon
only a mutt roaming the morgue

here laying horizontal
a koi once was coy

would it be the furry feline
who is licking its lilac coat
or the hunt alone heron
who is parading the pasture

the crime scene creates suspicion
blue-green algae blankets afloat
the floppy leaved floating lilies
consealing goldfish’s corpses

tainted water toxic pond
poisonous plant
inflicted the innocents
unusual mystery unravelled

Fitting

You know how I know you are for me?
When I see your face I am happy
not for the things we do together
or the time we spend together
for I love the me being with you!

Static

she listens to her clients
nine to five everyday
five days a week
forty-eight weeks a year
she loves it
because
it is rewarding
spiritually and financially

she hears
her husband’s complaints
her parents demanding attention
her child’s disobedient grumble

to her
they are just static
from the telephone
so she hanged up
and turned away
to pat her beloved kitty

Silk road

the mystical red scarf
fluttered from the east to the west

transcended history and art
religions and technology
medicines and plagues

she survived
the harsh sand storms
the blistering desert sun
she surpassed
the camel corpses
the night thieves

prevailed the long journey
she staked out in torn shreds
marked the history
in scarlet

A Chinese Riddle

the long legged musicians
are
playing flute and guitar repertoire
while
parading into the honeymoon suite

Risks – by 9 yr old Ben

There are so many things to do in life
Some may be good and some may be bad
Like a roller coaster of ups and downs

There are also many risks
Like you saving a family member
and the risk is that
you might die from doing this

There are some risks you can take
and some you just can't
So Risk can be good like
saving a family member and living
Or bad like
you save them and you die

Vanilla Sky

I am a fugitive for life
there is nowhere to hide
run from mundane 9 to 5
fly into the vanilla sky
“Open your eyes.
You’re going to be fine.”
everything rings lies
illusion cheats no time

Anger

I had no electricity
at first
the zen in me remained calm
candle light was special
and poetic

I had been kicked around
like a soccer ball
between the energy supplier
and the strata manager
neither cared about
my defrosted deep freezer
and lukewarm refrigerator

fail after mistake
empty promise after fail
error after lip service
my anger surfaced

they started to receive
official warnings
from me
they retaliated with
strata by-law and ombudsmen
my anger turned into rage

I plotted to cause
the strata manager
to lose his job
the customer service officer
to be humiliated on national tv

then
I paused
to remember the difference
between
the outright angry customer
who screamed at the cashier
and
the polite cashier
who took complaints
day in and day out
eventually the passive anger
went ballistic to
gun down everyone in store

I finally realised
they were just a few
soggy frozen dinners
and wilted vegetables
I will have some wine
and write about it
rather than
follow through the plot to
destroy

just crash into me
