the arid ground
infuse the desert
with the scent of
cinnamon
the crown of
an african queen
admirable in distance
poisonous to the touch

every morning
you are my first thought
to guide my eyes open
your aromour is like
the genie
twirling out of the bottle
to fulfil my wishes
I get my hopes up
throughout the day
just like
most of the modern medicines
camouflage the symptoms
but cure nothing
I am hyped up
to watch myself
crashing in the margin of
a rollercoaster ride

To our Baby Danielle on 6th September 2015

Surprisingly you came and surprisingly you went.
We didn’t get to meet you in the sunlight.
It’s comforting to know
our Heavenly Father keeps you
close to Himself as a gift which
He freely gives and freely takes away.
We love you Baby Danielle!
You are always safe in the palm of His hand.
Would you remember
I once was the wren
sang by your window sill
to cheer you up
in those depressive
teenager years
Would you remember
I once was the misty rain
so effortlessly blanketed your face
in your early morning strolls
Would you remember
I once was your go-to place
took in all your sadness and insecurity
in your alone nights
Would you remember
woukd you remember
I once existed
in your life
as sweet as the incense fragrance
as brief as the brushing wind
as faithful as the knight
Would you remember
They are bloggers
tapping their life on two screens
from the initial collision
progressing to sleep deprived nights
filled with wonders and laughter
The courtship
fueled them with creativity
Great art works
splashed on a starlight canvas
with primal hues and mystic tones
sprayed with rusted shades
perfected with mastery final tints
When the exhausion set in
they lamented in clarinet and cello duet
until the sun came up on a new day
to conclude the burial
Greif lingered like autumn rain
until the sun peeked out to
strike a rainbow over the sky
sending out a sumliminal message of hope
Their love affair made them
painters and musicians
but foremost Poets
I am one of those people
who spends hours on cloud watching
as if heaven is the storyteller
with dramatic illustration to its
enchanted audience
Aladdin sits on the flying carpet
cascading down the marble stairwells
The clown holds up coloured cotton candies
to the ferris wheel
Jelly fish swim towards
the horizon at sun set
Hot air balloons cruise above
the evening African safari
kites lost in the crushed dandelions
I am lost in a coma of visual fatigue

Today is the first day of spring
The dry azure sky opens up
for the coming days
Shades of green set off multitude of
red, orange, yellow, violet, magenta and rose
a palette any artist is eager to ply
Where I grew up
it had a different shade of spring
A sprawling port city in a river delta
is warm and humid all year round
with no clear division of seasons
The subtropical mist brought on endless rain
It made its way through the four walls
It smelt mould
It warned me of fatigue
It made a rain loving poet
struggle to create

My father loves me
He forgives my every
disrespect, dishonest, disinterest
Just like when I was little
how he overlooked my every
mischief, mistake, misgiving
My father loves me
So I learned from him
my Heavenly Father is also
loving, forgiving
It left me no doubt
to follow His teaching
My father loves me
My father guided me to Him
And He guides me to
the straight and narrow path
I love you father
May you find Him
reaping what you have sowed

praise the magnolias
yearning to the marble sky
arms stretching for spring
she sits on the rope day bed
he weaved for her
cinnamon coffee swirls its way
into her fond memory of him
he used to massage her feet
while she was tapping away
to create sad stories from
her tragic mind
day after day
she could not believe
his unwavering love
he was like the floor lamp
giving out a glow to
clothe her in comfort and love
she always kept that
little distance and space
where he was blinded by confusion
he did feel like he was
just part of the furniture
fit for a purpose but
underserving of her love
now she is sitting alone and
writing a tragic poem on
what it should have been
a happy ever after
reality
