Suicide Note

I never know if there is a next life. If there is one, will I meet you again? To be honest, I prefer this is the end. Because no matter how sweet our love is, there will be more bile. I am incapable to be a knight to keep fighting for us. So, I choose to be a deserter.

I don’t know how much time do I have to live. I don’t know how long I will go on loving you. I still love how you appear in my mind. I still love your sound especially the way you speak. I even miss your once angry voice. But you are so calm and peaceful these days. And I too, love the content you.

I am willing to be an infatuated man loving you in humble distance. Perhaps for you, I am a masochist, a lower rib, a self fulfilled devastation. There is no time table for our love. Yet, I am counting down the days. I am giving all I can while you know I am a hypocrite.

I am glad that I don’t look forward to the next life. I am satisfied to surrender to a woman like you, a love like us. There are not enough next lives to match this passion, this madness and this loyalty in its totality. I have enough material to write love poetry to make up for the missing kisses and passionate nights.

I walk to the end of my life with worn out shoes in the company of your divine shadow and angelic sound.

Farewell Grandma

The original poem The Prodigal Daughter was posted on 16 October 2019. Now it seems fitting for today’s sentiment.

The prodigal daughter

car tyres roll on
the crackling pebble road
I drag my laden footsteps
to the yellow mud brick house
the door of my childhood flung open
grandma greets me with
her broad smile hung on
her criss cross face
my body quivers
at the sight of
the new fallen snow
my heart is filled with
flushed blood of
coming home

Dreamscape

After a solid work day,
I let down the rolled up sleeves
where no bit of poetry is stored.

There was nothing comes to mind.
I opened a bottle of Merlot,
put my feet up with a glass of wine.

Drowse hit me and sent me to slumber.
Vivid dreams filled the landscape of trance.
Faces came into focus from outer space.
Smiles resembles lost lives.
Music played by vegetation saturated in rain.
Air tasted like white figs.
Water ran like marble stress balls in my hand.

When I woke up,
darkness showed her calm face through the window.
My wine sat by the bedside table,
came to live in dark blue on vine.
Was the wine enchanted or I?

Gentlemen’s Agreement

I once lived in a rental garden flat
cohabited with
garden worms
scorpions
and
spiders

Garden worms came and went
through the wet walls
minding their own business

Scorpions were kept out of my flat
by the lavender shrubs I planted
could’t label them as intruders

The itsy winzy spiders though
I had a gentlemen’s agreement with
They stayed at the four corners of the ceiling
free to spin webs and catch their prey
mosquitoes, flies and clothes moths
to my delight
In exchange
they would never
receive a mist of lethal spray

The spiders and I had a deal
and it was a win-win
for both of us

Love in Silence

A translation of Jun’s poem 默爱 (Love in Silence)

When you try to make a name
as a painter
I become the sponsor
of your exhibition

When you write your heart out
as a poet
I am your publisher

When you are an author
written books no one reads
I learn to be a collector

默爱

当你是一个无名的画家,
你特想办一个画展,
我就成为一个赞助者。

当你是一个诗人,
你特想出一本诗集,
我就成为一个出版商。

当你是一个作家,
写的书无人看,
我就是一个收藏家。

Life and Death

She comes to me in the moonlight
wears a long grey shawl
drapes along the windy road
slows down her footsteps

She has stolen my lover
condemned him with shame
bound him with lies
to his guilt infected bed

My anxiety builds up
while she approaches
She opens her hand
reveals a dry crusty heart

I hold my breath and cup its fragility
Instantly it gives out a low groan
Its arteries gravitate to my life source
Hope clicks into place

Her face filled with astonishment
Her eyes flare up rage
Her shawl blown away by moonbeams
In a flash
she immerses in a cascade of smoke
The wall of cypresses let out a ghostly howl
taking her in a confetti trail of ashes

Social Distancing

I drove 35 minutes to the beach
found a lone pine tree

I sat in a lotus position
meditated Pslam 91

A person walked their dog
The fluffy mop stayed 0.5 metres from me
I looked at the ocean
It looked at me
I was happy to have company

It toddled away eventually
It was thoughtful though
It left a pile of shit behind
0.5 metres away from me

Its master did nothing
adhering to 1.5 metres social distancing
just left me and poo
to each other’s company

South Pole

Our naive determination
to become citizens of Antarctica
to imitate the penguins
and the hourglass dolphins
live in a world of desert
without camels

We are like albatrosses
a perfect icon
for the virtues of marriage
on perspex display

Our hearts live in the same
uninhabitable curve
filled with summer daylight
and cold
drenched in winter darkness
and colder

I wonder
where do we go from here
except going around in circles
of South Pole
